KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces' military intelligence unit has managed to tackle several cyber warfare attempts against the country in the past one year.
And in the wake of the sophisticated attacks from irresponsible parties, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein (pix) said the government is cooperating with several countries to improve its cyber defence system.
He added proactive steps have been taken to improve the cyber defence system to protect and prevent classified information from being leaked.
"We are working with several countries where confidential information with regards to our safety assets, and other information cannot be penetrated by any other parties," he said when met by the media after opening the Umno Gombak division delegates meeting here today.
The Australian newspaper The Australian recently uploaded on its website leaked documents about the Scorpene submarine. The 22,400 leaked pages, which the daily said it had seen, detailed the combat capability of the Scorpene-class DCNS submarine designed for the Indian navy.
Malaysia and Chile have variants of the vessel and Brazil is set to deploy it in 2018.
Hishammuddin said the leaked secret data would not affect Malaysia's two Scorpene submarines - the KD Tunku Abdul Rahman and KD Tun Abdul Razak.
"Cyber warfare is a phenomenon the world needs to face and Malaysia's strong position on the global landscape has enabled the government to cooperate with countries that are experienced on this issue," he said, adding that he cannot reveal which countries Malaysia is cooperating with on the matter.
