PETALING JAYA: MCA has come up with a preliminary list of candidates for the 14th general election (GE14).
According to a report in Sin Chew Daily yesterday, it is understood that the list includes the names for all constituencies it contested in GE13, except for a few contentious seats where the candidates are yet to be finalised.
The report said except for Tebrau MP Datuk Khoo Soo Seang, who has already made it known that he is not contesting in the next polls, all seven parliamentarians from the party are expected to defend their seats. They are party president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (Bentong), deputy president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan (Tanjung Malim), vice-president Datuk Chua Tee Yong (Labis), Datuk Koh Nai Kwong (Alor Gajah), and Datuk Wee Jeck Seng (Tanjung Piai).
As for Tebrau, vice-president Datuk Hou Kok Chung is expected to be nominated for it although it was earlier speculated that he would vie with Kluang division chief Gan Ping Sieu for the ticket to contest the Kluang seat. It is learnt the party has yet to decide on the candidate for Kluang.
According to the report, the candidates identified include vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun (Raub), vice-president Datuk Lee Chee Leong (Kampar), Youth chief Chong Sin Woon (Seremban), Padang Serai division chief Dr Chin Tung Leong (Padang Serai), Selayang division Youth chief Chan Wun Hoong (Selayang), Bandar Tun Razak division chief Datuk Chew Yin Keen (Bandar Tun Razak), Federal Territories division chief Datuk Yew Teong Look (Wangsa Maju), Gelang Patah division chief Datuk Teoh Siew Hock (Gelang Patah) and Pandan division chief Datuk Leong Kok Wee (Pandan).
Meanwhile, MCA grassroots members hoped Liow would give clear hints to those on the candidate list in the party annual general assembly in October so that they can start going to the ground to garner the electorate's support.
