Taiping has many attractions: Nazri Aziz

TAIPING: Taiping has special uniqueness and attractions to hold prestigious events like the Raintown Half Marathon to draw visitors, said Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
He said the organising of such an event which attracted up to 4,000 participants could help boost tourism here and generate income for the local residents.
"The participants most probably come with their families and would spend on accommodation, shopping including for souvenirs, and on food and beverages.
"Such a situation is good for promoting Taiping as a tourist destination and boosting the local economy," he said at the closing of the Raintown Half Marathon at Dataran Warisan Taiping, here, today.
Nazri whose speech was read by state Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid said Taiping has 23 tourism products for people to visit and 10 types of food that are iconic to the town.
He hoped that the Perak government and other tourism entities like Tourism Perak, Destination Perak and Tourism Malaysia Perak could give continuous support and assistance to the organising of exciting activities in Taiping.
The Raintown Half Marathon was divided into seven categories including the 21km men's open, which was won by Kenyan runner Thomas Muli who received a medal and RM800 in cash. — Bernama
