KANGAR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained an immigration officer at the Home Ministry Complex here on Friday for allegedly asking for a RM8,000 bribe from a contractor.

Perlis MACC director Yaacop Angah, in a statement today, said the suspect, in his 30s, had allegedly asked for the money so that a foreign construction worker in Kampung Wai, Kuala Perlis would not be arrested.

He said the suspect was picked up on the same day the contractor lodged a complaint.

Yaacop said the MACC had also detained a technician, in his 30s, of a factory in the state who is believed to be his accomplice.

The duo had been remanded for three days since yesterday, he said. — Bernama
