KUALA KANGSAR: The Secretariat for Empowerment of Indian Entrepreneurs (SEED) has helped 2,500 Indian women entrepreneurs nationwide get business financing since 2013.
Its chief executive officer, Datuk Dr A. T. Kumararajah, said the funding amounted to RM30 million and was channelled through Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM).
He said from January to July this year, 1,100 Indian women entrepreneurs nationwide received RM12 million in funding through AIM.
"This workshop is important because we can see the 99% of the borrowers are able to repay AIM. This is an encouraging achievement," he said.
"We have implemented various programmes to help the Indian entrepreneurs using the same model like the Bumiputra Agenda Steering Unit," he said.
Kumararajah said this to reporters after attending the Leadership Workshop for Indian Women Entrepreneurs here today.
Also present were general manager of AIM Financing Controller, Mohd Ramdani Kassim and member of Parliament for Kuala Kangsar, Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid.
The workshop, which attracted 76 entrepreneurs and SEED officials from here, Taiping and Selama, offers leadership training and motivation to help the participants manage and develop their businesses.
He said in October SEED would help the Indian entrepreneurs market their products via Mydin hypermarket chain under the "Wholesale and Retail" programme.
SEED secretariat was set up in August 2012. It aims to help boost the involvement of Indian entrepreneurs in the nation's economic development. — Bernama
