IPOH: In the spirit of patriotism, two villagers from Kampung Tasek have been decorating their cars with the Jalur Gemilang every year.
Mohd Shukor Osman, 60, who hails from Kedah, said he decorates his Proton Wira with the Kedah flag and the Jalur Gemilang every year and takes it for a spin in the city.
"I have been decorating my car with the flags since 2008 ... this is my way too show love and patriotism for Malaysia, a nation which I am proud of.
"Another reason is remembrance of a relative who was killed during the Communist insurgency when I was 12-years-old.
"Soldiers sacrificed their lives in defending the country and now we have to give back to the country we love," he added.
Mohd Shukor who served in the army for six years from 1974 is also proud that he was born on Sept 16, 1956, when the nation celebrates Malaysia Day.
Another villager, Tazar Alang Ibrahim, 56, has been decorating his Proton Aeroback with the Jalur Gemilang for the past 16 years.
"This is how I demonstrate my love for the country.
"I take my car around the city regularly and onlookers are attracted to the flag decorations," he said.
