Press Digest - Family living in fear of loanshark

PETALING JAYA: A 72-year-old woman and four other family members have been living in fear of an "ah long" since 2014 after a relative, who used her house address to borrow money from the loan shark, defaulted on payment.
The granny, who was identified only by her surname Sung in a report in China Press today, had received three threat letters and saw her house splashed with red paint in the last two years.
Sung and her children have lodged five police reports over the incidents.
She urged the loan shark to stop harassing the family as the husband of her youngest daughter-in-law's sister was the one who borrowed money.
She and her eldest son, who wished to be identified only as Zhang, sought the help of Kapar MCA division chief Datuk Song Kee Chai, who arranged for a press conference on Tuesday to highlight her predicament.
She appealed to the loan shark to leave her and her family alone as they did not borrow any money and did not have the means to pay on behalf of the loan defaulter.
Sung said she came to know her relative had taken a loan from the "ah long" only after receiving a threat letter a week after her house was splashed with red paint in November 2014.
Apart from issuing threats, the loan shark left her a contact number in the letter, she said.
"My son had contacted the loan shark to seek his understanding but he held us responsible for the loan taken by our relative," said Sung, adding that the loan defaulter had gone into hiding.
Meanwhile, Sung urged the police to act on the reports lodged as they had the loan shark's contact number.
