PETALING JAYA: A high-speed car chase on the North-South Expressway heading towards Seremban ended with two drug-trafficking suspects arrested by police today.

Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Zainol Samah said the drama unfolded at about 5.15pm when policemen on crime prevention rounds spotted a red Proton Saga FLX being driven suspiciously near Jalan Haji Hussein at Chow Kit in Kuala Lumpur.

"Checks found that the registration plate of the Proton Saga was fake and when the policemen approached the car, the suspect (driver), together with two passengers in the car, sped off and got into the KL-Seremban highway.

"The suspects also crashed into a Myvi car in their bid to escape," Zainol said in a statement.

The policemen gave chase for a few kilometres until Bandar Seri Puteri near Kajang but the suspects refused to heed orders to stop.
In desperation, they tried to make quick U-turn and rammed into the police personnel's motorbike, forcing the cops to open fire.

Two suspects surrendered immediately while the remaining passenger managed to escape.

"The driver and the passenger in their 40s were arrested while the other passenger escaped," added Zainol.

Police are still in the midst of ascertaining the identity of the suspects and whether they were drug traffickers based on the drugs found in the car.

theSun learnt police seized 30 packets of syabu, a packet of ganja and a packet of heroin in the car.

Police have initiated a manhunt for the escaped suspect, and the case will be forwarded to Kajang district police headquarters soon.
