PUPILS of Sekolah Kebangsaan Ladang Pendas in Gelang Patah, Johor have been able to start their mornings right, thanks to the nutritious breakfasts courtesy of KFC Malaysia’s Add Hope campaign.
The campaign is part of KFC’s global corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort to bring relief to the plight of the less privileged and drive action to end world hunger.
The ongoing project is in its 10th year in Malaysia. Funds are raised through the special “Add Hope Meal” promotion where customers are charged an extra 50 cents to their meal purchase on agreement.
The additional charge is channelled into the fund. To date, the campaign has raised over RM17 million locally and more than US$600 million globally.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
A recent visit to the school witnessed a representative announce that attendance has improved by 90% compared with the year before. This was great news as the majority of the students are made up of underprivileged orang asli.
“The pupils here have been able to start their day with a nutritious breakfast, as well as be treated to monthly KFC meals due to the unending and fervent support from KFC customers who have purchased the Add Hope meals throughout the years,” shared QSR Brands (M) holdings Sdn Bhd general manager Sharifah Musainah.
“KFC would like to thank each and every one of our customers for this. This breakfast programme is a perfect example of how customers’ contributions are making a difference to so many lives.”
FEEDING STOMACHS, MINDS AND HEARTS
The breakfast programme is a collaborative effort between KFC and non-profit organisation Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC).
Besides being provided with breakfast, pupils are taught about the importance of healthy eating. The event saw children treated to fun and games, complete with the distribution of goodie bags.
To add meaning to the merriment, the event included a tree-planting ceremony featuring KFC’s Add Hope spokesman (pix left, from left) Scha Alyahya, Sharifah and MRC secretary general Datuk Sayed A Rahman Sayed Mohd. Two fruit trees were planted, signifying new growth.
