Specific guidelines, special registration code for cyber crimes

KUALA LUMPUR: To improve the speed and efficiency of the Special Cyber Court, specific guidelines and a special code for cases involving cyber crimes will soon be created, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
She said the cyber court which began operations today, must also be equipped with wireless internet connection, projectors, laptops and desktops to facilitate hearings involving cyber crime cases.
She urged the management of the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex to submit requests for these facilities at the cyber court.
"It is up to the court ... the faster they submit the requests, the faster we can provide the facilities. The court needs to have its own internet protocol (IP).
"I do not want (a situation) when the judges conduct a case, suddenly it (the computer) hangs because of limited broadband strength," she told reporters after visiting the Special Cyber Court at the Jalan Duta Court Complex here today.
The objective of setting up the cyber court which was approved by the Cabinet was aimed at assisting legislative and enforcement bodies reduce cyber crimes in the country.
Azalina said the cyber court would handle two types of cases, namely civil and cyber, before Sessions Court judges who were experienced and at a minimum grade of Public Sector Premier Post (Jusa) C.
She said 27 judges nationwide had undergone special courses on cyber crimes at the Judicial and Legal Training Institute, organised jointly by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and the Communications and Multimedia Ministry.
She added the courses which were conducted by local and foreign experts were held on Aug 27 and 28.
"In order to handle cases related to cyber crimes, judges, prosecution and defence counsel must have the skills and expertise in the field of cyber ... this is important to quickly settle a case," she noted.
The minister said to date, the Special Cyber Court had only been set up in Kuala Lumpur and so far, there were no plans to have them in other states.
She said since 2014, there were 93 civil and 10 criminal cyber-related cases. — Bernama
