RTD to review SOP on roadblocks to avoid congestion

KEPALA BATAS: The Road Transport Department (RTD) will conduct a study to establish a new standard operating procedure (SOP) when setting up roadblocks in order to avoid traffic congestion.
Its Director-General Datuk Nadzri Siron said this was because the existing SOP had long been used and received complaints from road users.
"I am aware that the public brought this matter up in the social media, comparing the way roadblocks are set up in developed countries where all the lanes are left open, compared to the one lane the RTD leaves open now.
"I have also instructed that the best module be looked at to reduce traffic congestion during operations, for the sake of all parties," he told reporters after attending the closing ceremony of the One Community One RTD Programme in Kepala Batas at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dato Kailan here today.
The event was officiated by Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican who is also the Member of Parliament for Kepala Batas. — Bernama
