COMPELLING BRAND
“The Aon employers award is one of the most significant recognitions that a company could get in validation to its human resources practices and talent management initiatives. Getting this award means a lot to all of us in the company. It brings pride at all levels of the organisation ... to our partners (employees) and their families as well,” said Starbucks Malaysia and Brunei managing director Sydney Quays (fifth, left).
Quays was elated on winning for the second year. He shared that this signifies that Starbucks consists of highly engaged partners (employees) “and a great company to come work for and continue working for”.
In the meantime, Aon Hewitt Malaysia’s managing director Prashant Chadha shared that Best Employers do well to empower results through their people.
EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP
While the Aon Best Employers Award recognises companies with high employee engagement, compelling employer brand, effective leadership and high performance culture, Starbucks Employee Value Proposition is aimed at retaining, engaging and motivating its partners (employees) in exchange for their productivity and performance. Known as the Starbucks Experience, this includes extrinsic (rewards and benefits, plus opportunities for career development) and intrinsic elements (management style, work environment and culture).
STARBUCKS CULTURE
At Starbucks, it’s all about a culture that shares warmth and a sense of belonging. The company strongly advocates diversity and inclusion, understanding that each person brings a distinct life experience to the table. Partners are empowered to act with courage and motivated to grow with the company.
The Starbucks family exudes members from diverse cultural backgrounds that cover gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age, life experiences, thoughts and ideas. The company has in its portfolio, a store that employs the deaf and persons of various disabilities. It was established to raise awareness and validate Starbucks’ stance on inclusion.
EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT
Known and regarded as a company that is responsible, Starbucks Malaysia believes in leaving a positive impact on communities where they do business in, as well as on this planet. As such, it contributes back to the community and the environment through various means and ways, empowering the people to get engaged and participate.
Honoured to be recipients of two awards and committed to carrying them with pride, Quays concluded with a familiar saying at Starbucks: “We’re known for our coffee, but our people make us famous.”
The Aon Best Employers Programme is a global study first conducted in 2001. In Asia, it is run in 12 countries. Best Employers in Malaysia leads the pack scoring 25 points higher in engagement against the market average. We have 3.5 times more engaged employees, achieve 33% higher revenue and 62% higher profits than the market average.
