PETALING JAYA: Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has played down the actions of Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali (pix) over his "joget" performance with several cabinet ministers during the National Day celebrations.
Stating that the music had a "feel good" factor, the Santubong MP admitted that he too had danced to its rhythm.
"When the music sounds nice, feels good, people are bound to respond to it. That's all, there are no issues," he told theSun when contacted.
Advising the public to not take it seriously, Wan Junaidi said while he did not witness Apandi dancing, he did see four to five ministers doing so during the National Day celebrations, last week.
"There is also no issue with regards to ethics and breach of law. Everyone present then was influenced by the music, me included. To question it and make it an issue is just not right," he said, adding that it happened after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Prime Minister and deputy Prime Minister had left the event.
His response came after lawyer Hanif Khatri released a video showing Apandi performing the "joget" with several cabinet ministers including Wan Junaidi, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri and Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili during the National Day celebrations, last week.
Stating that such behaviour is unacceptable for the AG, Haniff said that Apandi's actions raised the public's doubts on his ability to make fair decisions in the event of investigations against members in the government.
The 25-second clip earned the ire of netizens, many of whom called for Apandi to resign as it was very unbecoming of him to be seen frolicking with the ministers so openly.
