Be wary of Tun M-Anwar pact, says Zambry

IPOH: Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir (pix) said the meeting between former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his former deputy Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should not be taken lightly.
He said Umno or Barisan Nasional should not assume the pact that might be formed by Mahathir and Anwar would not affect the party, but should instead be prepared for any eventuality.
"I don't see the approach as abnormal and that there is a possibility for (the pact) to materialise. Anything is possible in politics.
"Probably today it happens this way, tomorrow some other approach may crop up because the objective is the same, that is to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak," he told reporters after the state exco meeting here today.
Zambry, who is also chairman of the Perak Umno liaison body, described the meeting as a new initiative to topple the prime minister.
"It is probably because they feel that toppling the prime minister cannot be done by Mahathir alone or only Anwar," he said.
Zambry was commenting on the meeting between Mahathir and Anwar at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Monday where Anwar was present for a case involving the National Security Council Act.
Mahathir sacked Anwar in 1998 as the deputy prime minister. Anwar was subsequently also expelled from Umno.
Meanwhile in PUTRAJAYA, Mahathir was asked to state his stand on whether he had accepted Anwar as his political colleague following their brief meeting.
In making the call, Umno Youth vice-head Khairul Azwan Harun said he was unconvinced by Mahathir's statement that he had gone to the court merely to show support for Anwar, who was filing a summons against the government over the National Security Council Act 2015.
At a media conference today, Khairul said Mahathir's move indicates that "he practices the belief that political goals justify the means". — Bernama
