DUNGUN: Umno members have been told not to be too sentimental and indebted to several former Umno leaders who have now turned their backs and are no longer supporting the party.

Umno Supreme Council member, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said these leaders were even in cohorts with the opposition to topple Umno.

"We are not denying that the said leaders had at one time contributed a lot to the party and country's leadership, but they are also among those who are conspiring with the opposition to topple Umno.

"So, I hope UMNO members will stop being nostalgic about what they have done as now the fight is different," he said when opening the Dungun Umno delegates meeting, here, today.

Ismail Sabri, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister said the forming of a new party by former Umno leaders Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had clearly showed the manifestation of Malay disunity in national politics.

"We believe that only Umno is capable of bringing the Malays towards the pinnacle of achievement. Thus, the power in our hands now needs to be defended as the Malays' strength depends on Umno," he added. — Bernama
