PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur City Hall will cooperate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in the joint task force formed to review the standard operating procedures in local councils and authorities.
Its mayor Datuk Seri Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said forming the task force is necessary especially in strengthening DBKL's best practices, code of conduct and other organisational procedures.
"We welcome the task force formed and will cooperate with MACC in examining the five key areas involving DBKL," he said in a statement today.
The five areas involve five DBKL departments, in particular the housing project privatisation management; property purchasing guidelines for officers and staff; asset ownership and declaration; the People's Housing Project and public quarters and monitoring of property development in Kuala Lumpur.
Amin said DBKL was already monitoring and improving its SOPs and system through the Integrity Department and its integrity committee and governance is dealing with matters on integrity in its office.
He also said they would sign the Malaysia Corporate Integrity Pledge with 90 DBKL panel contractor companies on Sept 26.
This is a voluntary effort to make a unilateral declaration against corrupt practices and to operate with the highest standard of business ethics and principles, he added.
On Saturday, MACC and DBKL set up a joint task force to scrutinise and improve the practices, systems and procedures of the local government body.
It will be led by MACC investigations director Datuk Azam Baki and comprise officers from MACC's negotiation and checking as well as investigation divisions, and DBKL's investigation department.
Last Friday, DBKL's project management executive director Datuk Seri Syed Afendy Syed Abid Ali claimed trial in the Sessions Court to 18 corruption charges, including accepting bribes and assets estimated at RM4.4 million.
