KUALA LUMPUR: Some 37 senior citizens were injured after a private tour bus crashed and overturned at Km5.8 of the KL-Seremban highway today.
The bus was carrying 44 passengers while making a short journey from Ampang to Puchong before the crash at 9am.
A spokesperson for the Fire Department said they received a call at 9.37am today morning, at which time the Fire and Rescue teams from Sungai Besi, Taman Desa and Bukit Jalil were deployed to the area.
“All of the injured passengers have been sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Hospital Serdang,” he said.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police chief ACP Mohd Nadzri Hussain said all 44 passengers were Malaysian Chinese senior citizens aged between 50 to 70 years old.
“It is believed that the bus had lost control because the road was slick. The bus had turned 180 degrees before it overturned on the left shoulder of the road,” he explained.
He said no other vehicles were involved in the crash and the driver and tour guide were not injured.
Mohd Nazri said the seven passengers who were not injured in the crush were sent back home.
“Initial investigations found that the road was going downhill but there was no effect of braking because of the wet and slippery road. There was no sign of oil on the road, the bus tires were in good condition.
“The bus driver also informed us that the bus was in good working condition and there was no mechanical fault during the accident,” he added.
Mohd Nadzri said the investigations are still ongoing and the driver will be taken to the hospital to undergo blood tests.
