KUALA SELANGOR: Two firemen who were on the way to KL International Airport (KLIA) were killed while two others were injured after their four-wheel-drive vehicle collided with a tanker at a traffic light junction here this morning.
Auxiliary personnel Mohd Firdaus Mohd Nazri succumbed to his injuries at Tanjong Karang Hospital while fireman Amir Hamzah Saharudin died en route to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Mohd Sani Harul said the firefighters were heading to the KLIA station to take part in a Qurban programme in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration.
Mohd Sani added that the other two victims, Abdul Aziz Abdullah and Syazwan Hafifi Jamal, who were the driver and a passenger respectively, were injured in the 6.35am incident and are currently being treated at the Tanjong Karang Hospital.
"The accident occurred five minutes after they left their station en route to picking up their chief who was staying nearby.
"The Nissan Navara, driven by the injured personnel, collided with the tanker at the intersection, the lorry and the four-wheel-drive were travelling from opposite ends," he said.
According to Mohd Sani, the four-wheel-drive was turning right at the junction, whereas the lorry was heading straight when the collision happened.
