PETALING JAYA: The parents of one-year-old Shaintahvi Nadesan who has a brain deformity known as "holoprosencephaly" are in need of funds for their daughter's surgery.
The amount required for the surgery to insert a shunt in her brain is RM30,000 and they hope to raise the amount by Sept 21, the scheduled date of the surgery.
Selangor State Assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh said Shaintahvi who was initially treated at the University Malaya Medical Centre was referred to the Gleneagles hospital last month.
She added that Shaintahvi also has a twin brother who was born with only one kidney.
"The family has spent RM10,000 on medical bills for both children.
"Her father, Nadesan Muthaliar, 37, is the sole breadwinner of the family, earning RM2,100 and her mother, Kanimoli Tanggavelu, 35, is a housewife," Yeoh told a press conference today.
Kanimoli said the swelling at the base of her daughter's head was caused by a cyst in her brain.
She said inserting the shunt would help stop the pressure in her brain from growing.
The public can bank in donations for the surgery to Kanimoli's Maybank account: 112362253862 (Kanimoli Tanggavelu) or call Yeoh's office at 03-5631 2768 from Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm.
