TO commemorate the seventh Maybank Global CR (Corporate Responsibility) Day, over 18,000 Maybank employees around the globe convened in their respective locations, volunteering to engage with the people in carrying out socially responsible and environmental sustaining initiatives.
TOGETHER PROVIDING SOLUTIONS
Along the theme “Enabling Communities with Solutions”, the annual endeavour which is part of the banking group’s employee volunteerism programme is believed to be the single largest community programme undertaken simultaneously in one day, on a global scale and by a Malaysian-based corporation. Maybank employees right up to New York, London, Greater China, as well as all across the Asean countries gathered to reaffirm their commitment to social and community development.
The Maybankers were reported to have gone down on their hands and knees carrying out the 90 sustainable CR initiatives implemented, which involved special children, the elderly, the physically-challenged, single mothers, orphans, as well as the environment.
LOCAL SCENE
In Kuala Lumpur, Maybank chairman Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor took part in a fun run and walk with Down’s Syndrome children to raise funds for special needs students and children with cancer. Maybank group president and CEO Datuk Abdul Farid Alias was seen with employees helping to raise funds and spread awareness at a National Autism Society of Malaysia (Nasom) community event.
BIGGER IMPACT
Said the bank’s group chief human capital officer Nora Manaf: “Global CR Day is a unique volunteerism event where employees reinforce Maybank’s mission of humanising its financial services and its commitment to be at the heart of the community, sustainably.”
Believing that the solutions Maybankers brought to the table through the initiatives will surely benefit present and future communities, Nora also felt that with the principle of “Paying it Forward” weaved into the activities, the impact will go farther on the sustainability front.
