Hero police officer who served during communist insurgency dead at 85

IPOH: A former police and army officer, R.Ramadas, 85, who served during the communist insurgency died due to a heart attack at his house in Taman Rishah on Thursday.
One of his sons, Mohan Dass said: "He called my mother who was outside and by the time she arrived he had collapsed."
His wife, T. Ramanayagam said: "He called me at 4.30pm and asked me what time was I coming.
"By the time I arrived he was already lying down on the floor," she said.
An ambulance which arrived at the house pronounced him dead.
The funeral would be held at Bercham Crematorium on Saturday at 11am.
He served in Sungai Siput, during a time when it was a hotbed for communist insurgency in the country.
Ramadas was attached to the Sungai Siput police station from 1956 to 1959.
He was selected to go and meet Malayan Communist Party propaganda chief Chan Tien in Gunung Paku, Klian Intan, Gerik in December 1955.
"I was tasked to bring him out of the jungle to meet security forces to make arrangements for the Baling Talks," he said in his interview.
He was also in a group of officers who went into Gunung Paku jungle to meet CPM leader Chin Peng for the second time.
The Baling Talks were held to resolve the Malayan Emergency but it was unsuccessful.
