M'sians in Tamil Nadu advised to remain calm, be cautious

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians in Tamil Nadu,India are advised to remain calm, stay alert and adhere to local authorities' instructions following the one-day bandh (strike) in the state today.
Malaysia's Consul-General in Chennai, Ahmad Fajarazam Abdul Jalil said Malaysians need to remain calm and always be in safe areas such as student dorms and campuses, hotels, homes, as advised by the local authorities.
"Although the consulate is closed today in conjunction with Malaysia Day, there officers on duty to monitor the situation throughout the day," he told Bernama.
International media today reported that various farmers’ associations and trade organisations had called for a statewide shutdown to protest due to the water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka state over the Cauvery River issue.
Riots erupted in Karnatak after India's Supreme Court ordered the release of water from the river to Tamil Nadu on Sept 12, despite Karnataka facing an an acute shortage of water in its reservoirs and rivers.
