BELURAN: Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee has suggested that other states take turns to host the Malaysia Day celebration, instead of limiting the hosting to Sabah and Sarawak.
According to this Member of Parliament for Beluran, such a celebration could heighten patriotism among Malaysians.
"It is important for the Malaysia Day celebration to be appreciated by all citizens to raise the patriotic spirit towards the country," he said at the Beluran district-level Malaysia Day celebration, here, today.
Also present were Beluran district officer Suhaili Riman, district police chief Supt Sivanathan Velautham and Beluran Umno division head Samad Jambri.
Kiandee said the demands made by the people in Sabah and Sarawak pertaining to matters, implicit and explicit, in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 should be handled together wisely by all Malaysians.
He said it was important to understand the Malaysia Agreement, including by school students, as it was the foundation for the formation of the federation of Malaysia.
Kiandee said Malaysia would remain strong and progressive if love and loyalty for the country continued to be sowed in the hearts of the people.
He also said that as Malaysia Day on Sept 16 had been made a public holiday since 2009, the celebration should also be held at the district level as had been done in Sabah for a long time. — Bernama
