Don Hu Jurassic Park a new attraction in Muar

MUAR: Avid interest in prehistoric animals has spurred Heng Chiang Hwee, a tree nursery entrepreneur, to take the initiative of decorating his nursery with customised dinosaur sculptures from China.
Since opening to the public two months ago, Don Hu Jurassic Park Garden, formerly known as Don Hu Nursery at the Muar Bypass, visitors have been thronging the unique park.
Heng, 35, said he did not charge visitors any fee and the public were always welcome to visit the park.
"I built this park for people to bring their children to entertain and enjoy themselves there since they do not have many options here (in Muar)," he told Bernama today.
He said that to date, the garden already had 12 dinosaur sculptures, including the Tyrannosaurus Rex species, and three more sculptures would be installed next month.
"Now, only 50 per cent of the construction work has been completed and it is expected to be fully completed in two months," he said.
Heng said he spent RM10,000 to RM30,000 for a dinosaur statue depending on the size, ordered from an acquaintance in Guangzhou, China.
Asked whether he would charge visitors any fee in future, the native of Muar said he would not because he was happy just to see many people visiting the park, even if they didn't buy any of the ornamental trees he was selling.
Heng plans to expand the Jurassic Park by creating a recreational area for children, hold antique exhibitions and conduct tours to his chicken and duck farm on the 5.6 hectares of land.
"If people ask me how much I profit from the park ... it's difficult to explain as I don't charge entry fees. I opened the park more for my satisfaction and to share it with the public," he said.
The park is open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 8am to 8pm.
A visitor from Kuala Lumpur, Hafezza Saidin, 41, said the opportunity to enter the dinosaur park free of charge was surprising because all theme parks charged high entry fees.
"Hopefully, the park will be maintained as it can be an attraction to locals and foreigners," said Hafezza, adding that it was amazing and thrilling to see the life-like dinosaur statues, and praising the owner for the creative idea. — Bernama
