Former SLDB general manager and businessman charged with CBT involving RM8.9m

PETALING JAYA: The former general manager of Sabah Land Development Board (SLDB), and an oil palm plantation owner were charged today with criminal breach of charge involving some RM8.9 million.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in a statement today said, George @ Juuari Majid, was accused of approving the unauthorised sale of 166ha of state land in Keningau to How Kim San, 55.
George was accused of approving the sale of the land which he was not authorised to do between March to August 2013 at the SLDB office in Kota Kinabalu.
He had allegedly approved a sum of RM8,999,999.30 in cash as compensation for land and crops on four plots of land (Kampung Babason, Sook, Keningau).
The 166ha of state land was said to have been "sold" without the approval of the SLDB board of directors nor the state finance ministry.
George was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust while How was charged under Section 109 for abetment.
Both carry a sentence of not less than two years jail and not more than 20 years with caning, and or a fine.
Justice Abu Bakar Manat set bail at RM100,000 along with two sureties and the surrender of their passports.
MACC was represented by the deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib.
The judge also scheduled Oct 27 for re-mention of the case.
