Khalid: Three foreigners among four arrested for terrorist activities

KUALA LUMPUR: Four men, including three foreigners, believed to be involved in terrorist activities, were arrested in Selangor and Pahang.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar (pix) said the four suspects were arrested by the Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division between last Aug 2 and Sept 17.
"The first suspect, a Bangladeshi, 37, is an owner of a restaurant in Bukit Bintang. He is suspected to be involved in smuggling firearms used by international terrorists.
"The man, who is on Interpol's red notice list, was arrested on Aug 19 and has been deported to his country of origin on Sept 2," he said in a statement here, today.
The second suspect, Khalid said was a Nepalese businessmen believed to be involved in forging of travel documents for the use of international terrorists.
The 38-year-old suspect was arrested on Aug 19, and deported to his country of origin on Sept 2, he added.
Khalid said the third foreign suspect was a 26-year-old Moroccan who worked as an iron welder.
"He is a member of the Daesh militant group and had been arrested by Turkish authorities while attempting to enter Syria illegally last February.
"After he was released, he sneaked into Malaysia in early May. The suspect was arrested on Aug 2 and deported back to his country of origin on Sept 21," he added.
Khalid said the other suspect was 34-year-old local man who was employed as a personal driver to a businessman.
"The suspect has connection with Muhammad Wanndy Mohamad Jedi. He is believed to be active in promoting the Daesh militant group on his Facebook account," he said.
According to Khalid, the Bangladeshi and Nepalese suspects were arrested under Section 6 of the Immigration Act 1959/63, while the Moroccan and the local man were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012. — Bernama
