Oct 14 decision on Chegubard over Selangor voters appreciation assembly

PETALING JAYA: The Sessions Court here today set Oct 14 to decide on a case involving the founder of Malaysian Youth Solidarity Movement (SAMM), Badrul Hisham Shaharin, in connection with the holding of the Selangor voters appreciation assembly three years ago.
Judge Mohamad Kamil Nizam fixed the date after hearing submissions from both parties at the end of the prosecution case.
Deputy public prosecutor Suhaimi Ibrahim appeared for the prosecution, while lawyer Haijan Omar, represented Badrul Hisham, 38, also known as Chegubard.
On that day, the court will decide whether to acquit or order Badrul Hisham, who was the organiser of the assembly, to enter his defence on a charge of failing to notify the Petaling Jaya police chief on the programme within the stipulated time, which was 10 days before the date of the event.
On Dec 8 last year, Badrul Hisham, who is also former Rembau Parti Keadilan Rakyat leader, had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at Dataran Petaling Jaya, Padang Timur, Jalan Timur here at 5 pm on May 25, 2013.
The charge, under Section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and punishable under Section 9(5) of the same law, provides a fine of up to RM10,000, upon conviction.
Badrul Hisham was first charged with the offence on June 5, 2013 and on Aug 4, 2014, was discharged, but not amounting to an acquittal, to the charge, following an application by the prosecution. — Bernama
