Cops arrest girl, dad for possession of M-16 assault rifles, ammo

SANDAKAN: A 13-year-old Filipina and her father were arrested by police after they were found in possession of 30 rounds of ammunition meant for M-16 assault rifles Kampung Mangkalinau here on Tuesday.
Sabah police CID chief SAC Datuk Salehuddin Abdul Rahman said police also recovered three ammunition magazines also used in M-16 assault rifles and a sword at the suspects' house in a raid at about 1.30am.
He said the girl and the her 33-year-old father are both illegal immigrants from the Philippines.
Salehuddin said the man also tested positive for drug abuse.
He said police raided the house following a tip-off and have obtained a week-long remand order to detain the suspects for further investigations.
Police are also checking if the suspects are involved in militancy.
Since 2013, the federal Special Branch has nabbed 210 Malaysians and 30 foreigners for various militant-related activities and offences.
The detained foreigners are mainly from Indonesia followed by Iraq, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Phillippines, Kosovo, Morocco, Bangladesh, Nepal, Egypt, and Turkey.
