Felcra collaborates with Mara on strategies for youth development

PETALING JAYA: Felcra Berhad is collaborating with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) to develop the agency's human capital and business strategies for its second and third generation settlers.
Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the cooperation between two bodies will include the development of entrepreneurship, financial assistance and training.
"Felcra has already produced more than 1,600 entrepreneurs and with this cooperation with Mara and neccessary financial resources, more young entrepreneurs will definitely benefit," he said at the launch of Felcra's 50th anniversary celebration at Seri Pentas in Petaling Jaya today.
The event also saw the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the matter between Felcra Berhad and Mara. Felcra was represented by its chief executive officer Zulkarnain Md Eusope while Mara was represented by its Director-General Datuk Ibrahim Ahmad.
Ismail Sabri added that with the collaboration, there was a possibility of the setting up of a MRSM school for Felcra youth in the future.
He also said that since its establishment 50 years ago, Felcra had recorded many achievements such as cumulative profit of RM5.76bil (from 1997 to 2015) compared to only RM468 million between 1989 and 1996, when it was privatised.
It also successfully developed 260,000 hectares that benefited 110,420 settlers as compared to 1,700 hectares for 547 settlers during its early years.
