SHAH ALAM: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) will announce the price control scheme in conjunction with Deepavali, to be celebrated next month, after having discussion with all quarters.
Its minister, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the ministry was studying the list of essential items required by the people, especially the Hindus.
"We will discuss with all those involved in the industry and will make an announcement (on the price control scheme) two weeks before Deepavali," he told reporters after opening an event by travel club World Ventures at Malawati Stadium last night.
The festive season price control scheme is enforced under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 which provides a fine of up to RM100,000 and imprisonment not exceeding three years, or both, or compound of up to RM50,000, for individuals, if found guilty.
For a company, the fine is up to RM500,000, or compound of up to RM250,000. — Bernama
