KUALA LUMPUR: BN had refrained from demonising others but instead focused on helping the people by implementing sound policies.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said it is better to practice good governance although it is easier to engage in political rhetoric.
"We could have played hate politics, it is easy to demonise the other side even though it is a great sin.
"Instead, we keep fighting the good fight and maintain the agenda to better the lives of the people and the lives of women," Najib said in his opening speech at the Young women Festival 2016 today.
The Umno president said it is only through moderation and careful formulation and implementation of policies that women of the country can be uplifted.
This is why, Najib said, BN and Umno has the best agenda for empowering Malaysian women.
During his speech at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), he said the government had implemented many policies that are beneficial to women.
Among those is the 30% target of women participation in the public and private sectors, in which he said the latter needs to buck up.
"We have many women staff in the Prime Minister's Department, in the Finance Ministry, and in many other ministries. The government is doing its part.
"I hope the private sector will follow suit so we can advance together as a nation," Najib said.
He then told the thousands of women present that with the right attitude, such as that adopted by Malaysian paralympians, they too, can succeed and achieve their dreams.
Similarly, Najib said women do not seek pity or sympathy but to be given the chance to succeed.
"If opportunities are available for women, they can succeed in everything," he said.
Also present were Najib's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, and Puteri Umno chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
