SHAH ALAM: In the effort to prevent incidences of road accidents involving students near school areas from repeating, all State Education Departments (JPNs) have been asked to take immediate necessary steps.
Education director-general Tan Sri Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof (pix) said this was because JPNs had detailed information on schools' environment, enabling they to od future planning.
"The Education Ministry views this issue (accidents)seriously and hopes that the required action will be taken," he told reporters after launching the ministry's 'Jelajah Penerangan Dasar-Dasar Utama' programme, here today.
Khair said the ministry also had comprehensive guidelines on actions that need to be taken in case of such incidents.
He said this in commenting on the recent fatal road accident involving a primary school student nearby the school's compound.
On Sept 21, a Year Four student of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Teluk Medan, Bagan Serai, Perak, was killed in a road accident involving a trailer, when crossing the road to go to school.
A day earlier, a Year Four student of SK Santong, Dungun, Terengganu was also killed after being hit by a car when crossing the road to school. — Bernama
