KUALA LUMPUR: Police raided the bungalow of a "VIP" at Jalan Ampang Ulu here where they arrested the man's son, a local drama actor and a Filipino and seized ganja plants along with an array of weapons on Saturday.
The weapons seized included air pistols, samurai swords, several parang and brass knuckles.
City police chief Commissioner Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh said the raid was initiated following a tip-off and the suspect's two accomplices, the actor and the Filipino, who are all in their 30s, were also picked up in the 12.40pm raid.
"Police are looking into the discovery of the weapons and are investigating whether the suspects were involved in secret society activities and drug syndicate.
"The ganja plants seized, ranging from 20cm to 100cm tall, were meant for the personal consumption of the suspect and his friends," he said, adding that investigators learnt that those arrested were skillful in cultivating ganja plants indoors.
It is learned that the bungalow's owner is the VIP who runs an international school here and the Filipino man is an IT expert residing in Malaysia for 20 years.
"Police seized a total of 465 grams of dried ganja leaves and weapons including four air pistols, two air rifles, seven samurai swords, 19 knives, an axe, a police vest and a beacon light.
"You must have a legal permit to possess an air gun and we (police) also want to establish if the suspects had posed as policemen," he said.
Amar Singh added that the ganja seeds were smuggled from the United Kingdom.
He said the trio have been remanded until Friday.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 6B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 36(1) of the Firearms Act 1960 and Section 7 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances Act.
This is the second time in five months that ganja plants have been seized from homes.
On April 27, city police arrested a 33-year-old Iranian businessman after they found eight ganja plants, 129cm to 179cm tall, on the balcony of his condominium in Cheras.
The suspect, who had been residing in Malaysia for two years, was apparently growing the drugs for personal consumption.
The Iranian claimed trial after he was slapped with two charges, one for planting cannabis and another for overstaying the permitted period allowed by his social visit pass.
