Public helps RTD take 2,500 errant motorists to court

KUALA LUMPUR: Tip-offs from members of the public saw the Road Transport Department (RTD) taking more than 2,500 motorists to court for misusing the emergency lane between May 22 to Sept 26 this year.
RTD enforcement director Datuk V. Valluvan said 2,522 motorists are scheduled to be brought to court from October until January 2017.
"As of today, 50 misuse of emergency lanes cases have been brought to court. The offenders have been fined between RM1,000 to RM2,000 for each offence," he told a press conference here today.
He said public's effort especially in taking note of the date, time, location, and photos or videos of incidents is commendable.
"The members of public can submit information on traffic offences to aduantrafik@jpj.gov.my," he said.
Valluvan further revealed during the Hari Raya Haji and Hari Malaysia celebrations, about 138 emergency lane offence cases were reported by the public.

He said current statistics showed that Selangor has the highest number of traffic offence complaint at 755, followed by Johor with 449 cases and Perak with 367 cases.
He further pointed out foreign vehicles especially from Singapore and Thailand who abuses the emergency lanes will also be blacklisted (drivers) from entering Malaysia.
