PETALING JAYA: Bersih 2.0 has rejected "in the strongest possible terms" the allegations made by Red Shirt leader Datuk Jamal Yunos who had stated that the electoral watchdog has been infiltrated by Islamic State militants.
In a statement, Bersih stressed that it did not maintain any form of connection with any terrorist group.
It also dismissed Jamal's accusations that Bersih had plans to gather at airports in Malaysia during its planned Bersih 5 mega rally on Nov 19, stressing that it would stick to the programme's schedule.
"The allegations are baseless and are made with ill intentions to strike fear and violence," the statement, signed by the Bersih 2.0 steering committee, said.
"Bersih 2.0 is assessing all legal options in dealing with such malicious allegations and will hold all those who fabricate and circulate them responsible," it said.
Bersih said it would continue to seek electoral and institutional reform through peaceful and democratic ways.
Jamal in a press conference at Putra World Trade Centre yesterday claimed that he was informed by "reliable sources" that Bersih has been infiltrated by IS.
The Sungai Besar Umno division chief also alleged that the movement has intended to topple the government by seizing control of several strategic places, including the KL International Airport, and Putrajaya.
Jamal said he would be mobilising counter-events to the roadshow announced by Bersih in several locations nationwide.
