King, Queen take part in golf championships

TAIPING: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, and the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah, participated in the four-cornered Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Cup Golf Championships at the Taiping Golf & Country Club in Bukit Jana here today.
Their Majesties were welcomed on arrival at the club by Kedah Council of Regency member Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah; the Raja Di-Hilir of Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris; Deputy Chief of Army Lt Gen Datuk Seri Panglima Ahmad Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi and Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
They were presented with souvenirs from the Royal Service Corps and Royal Malay Regiment before having breakfast with all the golfers prior to the tee-off.
Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah donated RM2,000 as prize-money for the winning team of the championships which is organised jointly by the Royal Malay Regiment and Royal Service Corps.
The primary aim of the championships, introduced in 2009, is to forge a closer relationship between the institution of the royalty and military. — Bernama
