PDRM: Patrols, road blocks reduce crime rate in Perak Tengah

PARIT: The increase of patrol and road block operations around Perak Tengak had proved effective with the number of crimes reduced to 163 so far this year, as compared to 190 for the same period last year.
Perak Tengah Police Chief Supt Aziz Hassan said topping the list was motorcycle theft with 53 cases, out of which 24 were successfully solved, while Kampung Gajah, here is the hotspot area.
"Prevention measures such as patrols and road blocks were increased in residential areas almost every night to ensure the safety of the local communities," he told reporters after the handing over duties of Perak Tengah deputy police chief, here, today.
The ceremony saw Perak Tengah Special Branch chief ASP Abd Malek Ismail appointed as the acting Perak Tengah deputy police chief replacing the retired DSP Leong Ah Kow.
In another development, Aziz said five suspects, aged 26 to 55 years, were detained at a house in Kampung Bota Kiri, near here, last Thursday, together with heroin weighing 30.72 grams.
All suspects, who tested positive for drugs with three of them having criminal records, were remanded until tomorrow to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — Bernama
