KUALA TERENGGANU: Beginning next month, the Terengganu Government will collaborate with its counterparts in Pahang and Perak to promote tourism.
State tourism and cultural affairs committee deputy chairman Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman (pix) said this was in line with the Visit Terengganu Year, and for similar events pertaining to the two states next year.
"So, the three states will go hand-in-hand to introduce the uniqueness of each state at home and abroad, including a series of international promotions at the World Travel Mart next month.
"Starting in mid-November, the series of promotions for the three states will be escalated at home and we are confident this collaboration will be able to realise the aim of Terengganu to secure 5.5 million tourists next year," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after opening the 2016 Terengganu Marine Eco Tourism International Conference here today.
Commenting further, Tengku Zaihan said 17 main tourism activities had been listed in the 2017 Visit Terengganu Year calender, followed by scores of other events.
He said among Terengganu's attractions were the Kelah Santuary at Tasik Kenyir, Hulu Terengganu.
"For example, after the 'Beautiful Terengganu' promotion in Singapore, many tourists are making a bee-line to enjoy the beauty at the sanctuary.
"The move to limit tourists to the Kelah Sanctuary to 100 people a day will also turn it into a unique destination to become among the 'must visit' locations for every tourist to Terengganu," he added.
Tengku Zaihan, who is also Kuala Besut state assemblyman, said a major focus of the state government was to hold the 'Beautiful Terengganu Carnival' during the school holidays next March.
"It will be held simultaneously with the Beach Festival at Batu Buruk and the Tasik Kenyir Carnival." — Bernama
