DBKL contributes RM100,000 yearly to MRC FTKL

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) allocates RM100,000 yearly to the Federal Territory Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) for community activities including natural disaster relief services.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said as a voluntary organisation MRC WPKL had no financial resources and depended entirely on donations from the government, private sector and members of the public.

"MRC FTKL members have worked relentlessly, demonstrating their voluntary spirit in helping victims of natural disasters within and outside Kuala Lumpur areas and such efforts should be intensified.

"To enable MRC FTKL to be more active and dynamic, private entities and other government agencies must assist them through financial contributions," he told reporters after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DBKL and MRC FTKL here, today.

He said DBKL was willing to provide a temporary office for MRC FTKL as the dilapidated existing office building in Jalan Yap Kwan Seng was due to be restored.

"We are identifying strategic areas to locate their new office. We are looking at Seri Rampai and Jalan Chalet (behind the old palace) areas," he said.

Meanwhile, MRC FTKL chairman Datuk Dr Noordin Abdul Razak said some 6,000 members, volunteers and school children have registered under MRC WPKL.

He said to promote awareness on the importance of having first aid skills among city folks, MRC was prepared to conduct free first aid courses for those interested.

"So far, over 5,000 people have participated in the course," he said.

Meanwhile, Mhd Amin Nordin said the MoU between DBKL and MRC FTKL was initiated to facilitate interaction between both organisations in matters related to natural disaster, training, communications and logistics.

"Apart from carrying out our respective duties, DBKL and MRC WPKL are also closely linked as many DBKL senior officers sit in the MRC FTKL committee," he said. — Bernama
