Policeman injured in scuffle with illegal immigrant

KUALA LUMPUR: A policeman injured his hand in a scuffle with an illegal immigrant from Myanmar who tried to break through a police road block in an operation codenamed 'Op Nyah 2' at Jalan Klang Lama, here.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh (pix) said the man had been apprehended while the injured policeman sought treatment as an outpatient at a private clinic, here.
In the operation from 5pm yesterday until 4.30am today, 49 illegal immigrants were detained for various offences in the Plaza Low Yatt, Jalan Klang Lama, Jalan Haji Hussein, Jalan Raja Alang, Kampung Baru and Chow Kit areas, here, he said.
"A total of 196 foreigners were inspected and 49 of them including six women, all of whom were Indonesian nationals, were detained.
"The 43 remaining detainees were men from Myanmar (13), Bangladesh (12), Indonesia (eight), Senegal (three), Pakistan and Nigeria (two each), and India, Yaman and Nepal with one each," said Amar Singh.
He said action would be taken under the Immigration Act 1959/63, Passport Act 1966 and Human Trafficking Act 2012, among others. — Bernama
