WARSAW: Two Polish mountaineers were killed while scaling a 6,500m peak in the Indian Himalayas, a climbing group said Thursday.
The men got stuck on a wall Monday during their ascent of Mount Shivling in northern India, according to the Polish Mountaineering Association (PZA).
One of the climbers, Grzegorz Kukurowski, lost consciousness and despite receiving medical aid died the next day.
The other man, Lukasz Chrzanowski, attempted to descend the mountain after rescue helicopters and the Indian Army tried in vain to evacuate him.
On Thursday he fell 200-300m before tumbling into a crevasse, and later died from the injuries he suffered during the fall. — AFP
