Filipino couples living luxurious life using fake documents detained

LUMUT: Two pairs of husband and wife with jewellery worth tens of thousands of ringgit were among 23 Filipinos detained in 'Ops ID' in several locations around Manjung district here early this morning.
The suspects, in their 30s, were detained at their home in Kampung Deralik about 5am with jewellery worth almost RM30,000.
Director of Investigations and Enforcement, National Registration Department (NRD) headquarters in Putrajaya, Mohamad Yusri Hashim said the couple led a luxurious lifestyle just by using fake identity cards and skills certificates to obtain employment.
"They were indeed living in luxury, a home inspection found a Rolex watch worth about RM10,000.
"We believe this is the work of the husband, who works in a private company known for using fake Construction Industry Development Board ('CIDB') skills certificate," he told reporters at the end of the operation here today.
The operation by the Putrajaya and Perak NRD began at 12.30pm and ended at about 7am and was carried out jointly with the Army and the Malaysian Immigration Department.
Yusri said in another raid in Taman Semudera, they arrested another Filipino couple with jewellery worth RM20,000.
"We also found two branded watches and RM850 cash as well as several receipts for gold that had been pawned worth thousands of ringgit," he said.
According to Yusri, all those detained during the operation, aged between 20 and 60 years, were for various offences, including falsifying identity cards besides using someone else's identity card.
Also found were a number of false birth certificates, bank account cards, fake marriage certificates, false police pensioner card and fake driver's licence.
