SPAD to conduct feasibility study for tram service in KL

PETALING JAYA: The feasibility study on the Kuala Lumpur tram service conducted by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
The study according to SPAD's Land Public Transport Transformation Journey (PTPAD) 2010-2015 report, is for the service to be part of the public transport system in the capital.
Furthermore the PTPAD report stated that the study was to ensure seamless connectivity to ease traffic congestion in the city centre as the tram was more efficient and environmentally friendly.
The study is expected to focus on the actual demand of passengers, economic projections as well as financial and technical measures needed to support the operation of the tram services.
In addition, the PTPAD report also stated that another study on the improvement of the First-Mile and Last-Mile Urban Rail for Greater Kuala Lumpur will be conducted to research the tram service coverage as well as inter-connectivity with other modes of transport.
While by-laws will also be part of the study in determining the optimal use of rail assets.
The initiative is part of the Greater Kuala Lumpur Land Public Transport Master Plan to enhance the travel experience via the rail system.
The PTPAD report was issued in conjunction with the annual Land Public Transport Symposium 2016 and launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.
