DPM attends fifth meeting of Asean ministers on drugs in Singapore
SINGAPORE: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pix), who is also the Home Minister, will be in Singapore to attend the Fifth Meeting of the Asean Ministers on Drugs for two days beginning tomorrow.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister said in a statement sent here that the meeting would begin with a discussion at the Asean Senior Officers level.
Malaysia had hosted the Fourth Meeting of the Asean Ministers on Drugs in Langkawi in the year 2015. The first such meeting was held in Bangkok in 2012.
Ahmad Zahid will attend the Discussion on Asean Cooperation in Combatting the Production and Trafficking of Drugs in the Golden Triangle which is the location for the largest drug production and trafficking in the world tomorrow.
The initiative was started by Thailand which was the leading nation in Asean in the war against drug production and trafficking.
The discussion would involve the participation of ministers from Thailand, Singapore, Myanmar, Vietnam, PDR of Laos and Malaysia.
The regional cooperation was one of the programs that had been agreed upon under the Asean Framework for the period 2016 – 2025 to cooperate with the Asean community in combatting the drug threat. — Bernama
