KUALA LUMPUR: The National Union of Journalists Malaysia (NUJ) has urged the police to arrest the leaders and masterminds of the anti-Bersih group who were involved with harassing journalists over the weekend in Kuala Selangor.
"This treatment of journalists is dangerous and unacceptable, we urge the police to act and arrest the leaders behind the movement as no journalists should ever be harassed while on duty," said NUJ general secretary Schave Jerome De Rozario after he and two other NUJ representatives lodged a police report against the group outside the Brickfields district police station in Seri Petaling today.
He said that with regards to the attacks, those responsible were just "minions" running around.
"Go after the leaders of the movement, these minions may not be wearing a red shirt but they're harassing people," he said.
Also present was NUJ vice president Chin Sung Chiew who said that they are not against any party and are just standing up for the rights of journalists.
"While we know Datuk Jamal Yunos is behind the red shirts team, we are not against any party, whether it is red shirts or yellow," he said.
"We just want to emphasise that on behalf of the media, we feel that while we carry out our duties, we should not be disturbed by any parties," he said.
