Red Shirts' leader Jamal Yunos arrested (Updated)
KUALA LUMPUR: Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Jamal Yunos (pix) has been remanded for two days following his arrest upon his return to the country at KL International Airport (KLIA) today.
When met at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters, Gerakan Merah legal adviser Mohd Imran Tamrin said Jamal has been remanded over several police reports lodged against him.
He said Jamal was being investigated under Section 500 and 503 of the Penal Code for defamation and criminal intimidation as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act.
Mohd Imran added that Jamal will be held at the Dang Wangi police lock-up.
It is learnt the arrest was made following Jamal's remark on Facebook, dated Sept 21, where he allegedly posted: "I vow that the May 13 tragedy will be repeated and parang will fly if Bersih 5 is held at the same time, date and place as the #BERSIH5 rally scheduled on Nov 19. Long live the Malays!"
Bukit Aman CID director Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh confirmed that Jamal was detained by CID personnel at KLIA yesterday morning.
Jamal was detained by police at the KLIA on Wednesday morning at about 8.30am after arriving from Dubai.
On Oct 11, a police report was lodged against Jamal for the Facebook post.
He later reportedly denied making such a posting and claimed his Facebook account had been "hacked".
The posting disappeared soon after it went viral.
It is learnt that several other police reports have also been lodged against him and the Red Shirts.
On Oct 9, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said it was unacceptable for Jamal to make such seditious statements and action will be taken.
"This seditious statement is unacceptable. The police will take stern and swift action," he posted on his @KBAB51 twitter account.
