Ringgit ends higher against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit extended yesterday's gains to end higher against the US dollar today as most investors shifted towards emerging currencies, a dealer said.
At 6pm, the ringgit was quoted at 4.1810/1880 against the greenback from yesterday's 4.1900/1950.
A dealer said the ringgit rose in tandem with emerging Asian currencies as they took a break ahead of the European Central Bank's monetary policy meeting later today.
Gains, were, however, capped by lower oil prices. Global benchmark Brent crude fell 0.4% to US$52.46 per barrel.
The ringgit was traded higher against a basket of major currencies.
It appreciated against the Singapore dollar to 3.0081/0136 from Wednesday's 3.0220/0260 and rose against the British Pound to 5.1326/1433 from 5.1499/1578 yesterday.
The local unit gained against the euro to 4.5845/5938 from 4.6073/6132 and improved against the yen to 4.0303/0374 from 4.0514/0578 on Wednesday. — Bernama
