Lawyer, clerk charged with two counts of drug trafficking

SEREMBAN: A lawyer and a clerk were charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with two counts of trafficking more than 1kg of drug last week.

G. Sivakumar, 50, and P. Sivagami, 38, nodded their heads after the charges were read out to them before Magistrate Rahimah Rahim.

However, no plea was recorded.

On the first count, Sivakumar and Sivagami were jointly charged with trafficking in 95.5g of methamphetamine at a parking lot in front of a house in Taman Desa Seringin, Nilai, near here at 8pm on Oct 14.

For the second charge, they were jointly accused of trafficking in 1kg of cannabis at the same place, date and time.

The charges, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carry the mandatory death sentence, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Sara Afiqah Zulkipli appeared for the prosecution, while the two accused were represented by lawyers M. Haresh and Ramzani Idris.

The court fixed Dec 9 for mention pending the chemical reports. — Bernama
