PETALING JAYA: Opposition MPs today staged a walkout midway through Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak's speech at about 5.56pm.
A commotion ensued after Najib criticised an Opposition member over claims that the country was going through a difficult time, economically.
The Opposition MPs stood up and held up placards which read "Siapa MO1" and later walked out after Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia's calls for them to sit down went unheeded.
Pandikar said those who did not want to listen to the budget speech could leave.
However, PAS MPs, excluding Mahfuz Omar (Pokok Sena) remained in the dewan.
Najib then continued reading his speech.
Meanwhile, PAS Information Chief Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi said the parliamentarian who had walked out of the Dewan has disobeyed the 41 (1) (e) of the Standing Order.
He said instead of walking away, lawmakers should express their views and agreements through a proper channel to ensure that the rakyat’s agenda could be protected.
“There are things that we do not agree on the content of the Budget, but as lawmakers, we should express our dissatisfaction through the proper means.
In fact, section 41 (1) (e) of the standing order even stated that while a member is speaking all other members shall be silent and shall not make unseemly interruptions,” he said.
