PETALING JAYA: A group of suspected robbers had set up a wire trap across a motorcycle lane near a tunnel along the Shah Alam (Kesas) highway.
It is learnt that the modus operandi of the criminals is that they had planned on robbing motorcyclists that crash due to the trap.
The attempt came to light when photos of the wire trap emerged on social media and went viral.
The images were uploaded by netizens as part of a Facebook post, alerting motorcyclists to be careful of the trap and to be vigilant.
When the news was brought to the attention of Kesas, they immediately dispatched a patrol team which found the wire trap and ambush spot at about 5am today.
"No one had been injured by the trap, which is believed to have been set up in the early morning hours.
"We lodged a police report at Bandar Seri Petaling station over the incident for further action.
"The viral photos, which caught the notice of our staff, were given to the police as reference to facilitate investigation," Kesas said in a statement today.
The highway company also urged motorcyclists to use the main route between 11pm and 6am only for their own safety.
Kesas is cooperating with the authorities in the ongoing investigation and would like to reassure members of the public that 24-hour patrols will be carried out to avoid any untoward incidents.
